What if we asked "what's now?" instead of "what's next?"

I've noticed that the brains in our heads are a little obsessed with the future. We're always thinking about what's coming – what our goals, dreams, plans and even worries are. We're constantly thinking about what's next.
Lately, I've been focused on a different question. Instead of "What's next?", I've been asking "What's NOW?"
I've had several seasons and chapters where the NOW felt like a lot. Last year, the NOW consisted of caring for my parents. After that, the NOW consisted of doing ALL the things that come with the senior year of high school, planning and helping and savoring all the lasts and special milestones for my daughter. That season rolled straight into the next one.
This summer, the NOW was about feeling ALL the feelings that came with sending my daughter to college. Of course, she's exactly where she's meant to be, and I'm so happy for her and grateful for this next chapter. AND closing the last chapter and letting go of the old did feel heartbreaking.
This past weekend, my NOW was about celebrating my son's 21st birthday in Las Vegas with a group of people so near and dear to my heart that I could weep! Being in the NOW meant letting myself enJOY the people and the moments of the weekend to the absolute fullest.
Asking what's NOW brings my awareness into the present moment and helps remind me that there's nowhere else that's more important. It helps me let go of expectations and shoulds and thinking anything could be any different than it is. It brings acceptance. And grace. And joy.
And NOW, I'm stepping into a season of life that feels like a blank slate, one that feels important to ease into with consciousness and intention. I want to fill it with things that fill my SOUL - with people, places, activities and events that light me up. It's an exciting place to be now that I'm in it.
Over to you, what's NOW for you? What do you let go of when you come fully into it? What gifts do you notice?
That's my NOW. I can't wait to hear yours.
Love,
Mendy
